FSIA/State-Sponsored Terrorism

We represent thousands of Americans seeking justice against the Islamic Republic of Iran and other state sponsors of terrorism for their significant role in terrorist attacks, torture, and hostage-takings.

For over two decades, Iran and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) killed, wounded, tortured, kidnapped, or otherwise attacked thousands of Americans, including both service members and civilians working in the Middle East and elsewhere. Many of our clients seek to hold Iran responsible for directly committing terrorist attacks, torture, or hostage-takings. Our other clients seek to impose accountability for Iran’s material support for terrorist attacks throughout the world, which our clients allege included providing funding, weapons, and training to nearly every major terrorist group in the Middle East.

Accordingly, on behalf of our clients, we have filed several lawsuits against Iran that assert claims under the terrorism exception to the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA). The Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act is a federal statute that empowers Americans to sue foreign governments for their sponsorship of terrorist attacks that kill or injure Americans. Thus far, we have helped obtain over $1 billion in judgments against Iran on behalf of our clients.

Some of our FSIA matters include:

Cabrera et al., v. Islamic Republic of Iran, No. 1:19-cv-3835 (D.D.C.) and Adamkavicius, et al. v. Islamic Republic of Iran, No. 1:23-cv-3571 (D.D.C.), which focus on Iran’s active sponsorship of anti-American terrorism in Afghanistan. We represent over 1,500 clients in these lawsuits.

Martino, et al., v. Islamic Republic of Iran, No. 1:21-cv-1808 (D.D.C.) and Hulett, et al. v. Islamic Republic of Iran, No. 1:25-cv-00695 (D.D.C.), which focus on Iran’s active sponsorship of anti-American terrorism in Iraq by Sunni terrorist groups including al-Qaeda, al-Qaeda-in-Iraq, and Ansar al-Islam. We represent over 740 clients in these lawsuits.

Neiberger, et al., v. Islamic Republic of Iran, No. 1:16-cv-2193 (D.D.C.) and Lee, et al. v. Islamic Republic of Iran, No. 1:19-cv-830 (D.D.C.), which focus on Iran’s active sponsorship of anti-American terrorism in Iraq by Shiite terrorist groups. We represent over 170 clients in these lawsuits.

Fakhravar v. Islamic Republic of Iran, No. 1:24-cv-1760 (D.D.C), which seeks justice against Iran for its repeated attacks, including assassination attempts, on Amir Fakhravar, an author, activist, and vocal critic of the Iranian regime.

Alkhalili, et al. v. Islamic Republic of Iran and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, No. 1:25-cv-601 (E.D. Va.): In this anti-terrorism lawsuit against Iran and North Korea, we represent dozens of American service members, U.S. government contractors, civilians, and their family members, who were killed or injured in seven separate terrorist attacks while serving the United States in Iraq, Syria, Israel, and Kenya between 2019 and 2023. The lawsuit alleges that Iran and North Korea provided weapons, training, and financing to terrorist groups involved in the attacks, including the IRGC, Hizballah, Kataib Hizballah, Hamas, and al-Qaeda.

In the coming months, we anticipate filing additional lawsuits against Iran and other nations on behalf of other American victims of state sponsored terrorism, torture, or hostage-taking.
