Matt Fisher represents victims of anti-American terrorist attacks in lawsuits against entities and individuals that have allegedly aided and abetted foreign terrorist organizations. The defendants in those lawsuits include a major cryptocurrency exchange and its founder, global financial institutions, state sponsors of terrorism, and others.
Mr. Fisher also represents plaintiffs in anti-trafficking lawsuits against defendants that have allegedly benefitted from participating in ventures with human traffickers. In one such lawsuit, Mr. Fisher represents nearly 100 construction workers who are suing a U.S. company that helped oversee the construction of stadiums for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In another suit, Mr. Fisher represents victims of al-Qaeda and ISIS’s abhorrent human trafficking in a lawsuit against a global financial institution.
Mr. Fisher also maintains a complex commercial litigation practice. Recently, Mr. Fisher and his colleagues successfully defended an energy company in a breach of contract dispute, winning a zero-damages verdict following a five-day jury trial.
Before joining Sparacino PLLC, Mr. Fisher represented plaintiffs and defendants—from individuals to multinational corporations—in complex commercial matters at the trial and appellate level. Notably, Mr. Fisher represented plaintiffs in multimillion-dollar litigation involving residential mortgage-backed securities trusts, defended an industry-leading real estate company in an antitrust class action, represented a foreign sovereign seeking to enforce an arbitration award, represented a federal civil servant contesting the constitutionality of an adverse employment action, and litigated on behalf of prevailing parties in a Supreme Court case regarding the scope of the Federal Trade Commission’s authority. Mr. Fisher also provided extensive pro bono representation to incarcerated individuals.
Before joining Sparacino PLLC, Mr. Fisher was an associate at a leading litigation boutique. Before that, he clerked for the Honorable Edward C. Prado and the Honorable Don R. Willett of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. As a judicial law clerk, Mr. Fisher had the opportunity to learn first-hand how judges decide cases, and he has incorporated that knowledge into his daily practice.
Mr. Fisher graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. During law school, he was an Articles Editor on the Northwestern University Law Review, and he co-authored “Terrorizing Advocacy and the First Amendment,” 86 Fordham L. Rev. 565 (2017), with Professor Martin Redish.
Mr. Fisher is licensed to practice law by the Illinois State Bar. Until he is licensed to practice law by the Washington, D.C. Bar, Mr. Fisher works under the supervision of partners of the Firm who are licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C.
